Fighting Irish Live Up To Their Name
By Frederick Beery • Apr 11th, 2008 • Category: College SportsThe Notre Dame Fighting Irish advanced to the championship round to the Frozen Four tournament with a 5-4 win in OT over Michigan in Denver on Thursday night.
The Irish dominated the first period scoring just 5 minutes in and then again 42 seconds later. The lead came for Notre Dame at 19:25 of the first with a short handed goal. The Wolverines answered back in similar fashion however, scoring two goals within 15 seconds of each other, midway through the second.
Michigan netted a power play goal at 2:16 of the third period to tie the game. Both teams would score only once more in regulation, sending the game into overtime.
The winner would come in at 5:44 of OT for the Irish off the rebound from a shot after the face off.
Boston College also won on Thursday setting the tone early in the game against North Dakota, taking a 4-0 lead in the first. Boston College would go on to score two more and North Dakota, only one.
With their 6-1 win Boston College will meet Notre Dame on April 12th for the Championship game at Denver’s Pepsi Center. The game will be played at 7pm Mountain time.
