I want to preface this post with the fact that I love hockey. I grew up playing it in North Central Wisconsin and love the game at every level. So it’s not that I don’t want to love the NHL, I do, I just cannot accept what Gary Bettman has done the highest level of the game these last 10 or so years.
The tournament is well underway and we are rolling to the Sweet 16. Here are a few takeaways from the first weekend.
The first round of the tournament is probably one of the most exciting, usually setting the tempo for the whole tournament. If you see a bunch of early upsets you can rest assured that the whole tournament will be turned on its head and the latter rounds will be nothing short of fantastic. Below are some interesting first round games that could make the tournament even more exciting.
Everyone has their secrets to filling out the NCAA Tournament brackets. Whether you balance out your upsets with favorites, choose your favorite mascots, or pick the prettiest team colors. Here are some tips that have done me well over the years.
It’s here. The conference tournaments are done, the seedings and pairings are set and now we just wait for the greatest three weeks in college sports! Below is a break down of each of the brackets as I see them, I won’t bother going into who didn’t get in. I think who gets in is far more important! (Note to ESPN: I know you have to fill a couple of hours of TV, but spending so much time bitching about who didn’t get in over who did only diminishes the hard work of the tourney teams; let the kids enjoy it.)

If the NHL playoffs are the greatest playoffs in pro sports (and they are) then March Madness is the creme-de-le-creme of all college athletics.
The retiring of legends usually takes its toll on teams. The Denver Broncos have only won 4 playoff games since Elway retired, the 49ers have been struggling and are just now getting on track since Steve Young retired, The Dallas Cowboys have had 11 QBs before seemingly finding the next heir apparent in Tony Romo. So can a team that has so much promise lose their Hall of Fame QB and still make the playoffs?
I wanted to take a day to write this for a few reasons. The first because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t a joke, the second well, because I have to admit, it was a little heart breaking. I wrote a post about Favre during the playoffs so I won’t go on and on about how great he was. Rather, I just wanted to say thank you.
