As you may already know, Boston College Beat Notre Dame 4-1 to take the 2008 Frozen Four championship.

The contest took place in Denver, Colorado at the Pepsi Center on April 12th 2008. The Eagles opened up the scoring first in the second period when Nathan Gerbe beat net minder Jordan Pearce. Gerbe would score his second of the night three minutes later on the power play. The Eagles would score once more before Notre Dame did making the score 3-0.

Notre Dame caught Boston on a line change a minute later to make the score 3-1 but that was the only time they would score.

Nathan Gerbe was defenitely the player of the game, scoring twice and assisting on the other two goals.
Overall it was an exciting game, especially for those at Fenway Park, who were treated to the game during the rain delay of the Red Sox - Yankees game. in my opinion its probably the most exciting thing Red Sox fans have ever seen at Fenway.

Video review of the game by the NCAA showed multiple calls that seemed to heavily favor the Wisconsin team as well as a goal that was deemed to be kicked in.

If the outcome is different all games that would have been affected, will be replayed as well.

Paril Solof, a spokesman for the Pioneers, stated “I think that when a fair game is called we can avoid drama such as this, unfortunately this time that was not the case.”

The game has yet to be scheduled.

Notre Dame and New Hampshire squared off in Colorado Springs at the World Arena in one of four games played for the first round of the NCAA Mens’s Ice Hockey Championship Tournament on March 28th. For the first half of the game the two teams looked pretty evenly matched both offensively and defensively.

Early in the second period, however, Notre Dame took a 4-3 lead over New Hampshire and didn’t let it go, going on to score 3 more goals in the game, including 2 empty net goals. New Hampshire couldn’t score again and ended up losing 7-3.

Ultimately I am going to have to attribute this win for the Irish to their offense. Even when the team took the lead in the second, they continued to drive toward the net and create chances, putting New Hampshire on their heels and forcing them to play a very defensive game.

Other games played for the first round on the 28th include:

Michigan St. 3 Colorado College 1

Clarkson 2 St. Cloud St. 1

Niagara 1 Michigan 5

How are your brackets looking?

Looks like I am just a little late on the uptake here, but the Frozen Four starts on the 28th of March. I know that this takes a bit of a backseat to the Men’s Basketball tournament, but I still like to keep a little bit of an eye on it.

Looks like I am just a little late on the uptake here, but the Frozen Four starts on the 28th of March. I know that this takes a bit of a backseat to the Men’s Basketball tournament, but I still like to keep a little bit of an eye on it.

This year the Denver Pioneers beat Minnesota for their 15th WCHA championship. For the first round, the Pioneers will face off against Wisconsin. Wisconsin has a 15-16-7 record while Denver is riding a 23-13-1 record. Wisconsin shouldn’t be an issue for Denver.

The Air Force Falcons on the other hand, will have a tougher time than Denver in the first round when they face the top seeded Miami (Ohio).

Other games in the first round include:

Michigan (31-5-4) and Niagara (22-10-4)

St. Cloud St. (19-15-5) and Clarkson (21-12-4)

Colorado Col. (28-11-1) and Michigan St. (24-11-5)

Notre Dame (24-15-4) and New Hampshire (25-9-3)

North Dakota (26-10-4) and Princeton (21-13)

Boston College (21-11-8) and Minnesota (19-16-9)

The teams to watch this year:

Michigan: CCHA champions and the top ranked team in the country right now. Need I say more?

Denver: Winning the WCHA title for the 15th time is nothing to sneeze at. They also have the playoff and championship experience to go all the way.

Minnesota: While the Gophers looked like they wouldn’t make the NCAA tourney this year, they fought tooth and nail through February and pulled a 3-1-2 record for their last 6 games. This brought them from ninth to seventh place and into the playoffs.

Miami (Ohio): While they did lose the CCHA championship to Michigan this year, they fought a hard battle from minute one. Expect this to translate to the NCAA tournament.

So let’s get to filling out those brackets!

You can print your bracket from the NCAA’s website at:

http://www.ncaa.com/uploadedFiles/Sports/Ice_Hockey_(M)/2008D1MHBracket.pdf
