Things That Need to be Addressed: NFL Football

By Paul Barton • May 22nd, 2008 • Category: Football

The NFL is a very popular and profitable product that is in good shape. They are dangerously close to the point of implosion though. Get the CBA done, start controlling you players and your image, and remeber the game is the draw and the ship will stay on course. The iceberg is out there so be vigilant.

Lies, Signals, and Video Tapes

By Chris Lucas • May 9th, 2008 • Category: Football

While the tapes are a little less important than say, the Zapruder films, these could have a lasting impact on the NFL. SpyGate, as this has been so cleverly named by the media, is not all that surprising. Teams are consistently looking for an edge in a game where a few plays here or there can mean winning a Championship or not.

2008 NFL Draft Thoughts

By Jeff Kay • Apr 21st, 2008 • Category: Football

The offensive line needs the most help of any position on the Dolphins roster. Jake Long is an excellent right tackle and run blocker. Some day he isn’t up to the challenge of left tackle and that his pass blocking skills need work. Bill Parcells wants to run the ball, and Jake can help him do it.

Weak Football Schedules Lead to 18-1, Losing to App State?

By Paul Barton • Apr 18th, 2008 • Category: College Football, Football

The Pats were the not only the only team in the AFC East to make the playoffs, they were the only team over .500 in the AFC East. Conversely, the Giants were one of THREE teams (out of 4) from the NFC East to make the playoffs and all four teams were .500 or better. I know that more often than not, the weakness of the Pats schedule this coming year is a fluke, but rather than grow stagnant, why not put some additional passion into the sport like in English Premier League where you are not only fighting for the title, but to move up into the higher division?

Well Done: The NFL, USO, and Peter King

By Paul Barton • Mar 10th, 2008 • Category: Football

As a combat veteran, Operation Desert Shield/Storm, these stories always get my attention. I am most always pleasantly surprised to see the respect and genuine admiration that most of the people who go over and see what the troops are doing on the ground. Peter King’s account of his trip to Afghanistan was worth the read.

Julius Jones to Seattle; Shaun Alexander Out?

By Chris Roberts • Mar 8th, 2008 • Category: Football

Julius Jones has signed with the Seattle Seahawks. No matter what you think of Jones — his production last season was either good, mediocre, or bad depending on who you ask — his departure still leaves the Cowboys with unproven Alonzo Coleman and the almost-unproven fullback pair of Deon Anderson and Ronnie Cruz. I’m certain they’ll sign someone, but who?

Too Much Tarnish On the Star

By Paul Barton • Mar 7th, 2008 • Category: Football

The Cowboys are America’s team, and if you haven’t noticed, there is a reputation to uphold with that. I am tired of being mocked by Michael Irving’s exploits of years ago, all the off field trouble that the whole group got into back then. The Cowboys struggled through bad coaches, terrible personnel decisions, Tanks Johnson, and now possibly Pacman. I didn’t mention the 12 seasons since a playoff win. Do we need to change the uniforms to include ankle bracelets?

Pacman Jones’ Suspension Has Been Long Enough, Says Pacman Jones

By Chris Roberts • Mar 7th, 2008 • Category: Football

Sure, the NFL’s official position on former-Titan Pacman Jones is that his suspension is indefinite, but that’s not stopping one person from taking to the sports radio circuit to say that Jones is ready to be allowed back. Who’s stepping up to defend Pacman? Well, it’s Pacman Jones, but that’s not the point. Maybe it is time we think about his second chance.
